New FSR Multisite Guidance Will Help Companies Reduce the Cost of Multiple TAPA FSR Certifications

With cargo thefts reported to the TAPA EMEA Intelligence System (TIS) in 67 countries already this year, and product losses from supply chains of over €550 million, more companies are expected to start using the Association’s Facility Security Requirements (FSR) to help protect the resilience of their operations across the EMEA region.

FSR certifications in EMEA have risen 17% in the last 12 months and companies looking to use FSR-certified facilities will now find options in 65 countries. At the same time, companies looking to adopt TAPA’s industry Standards need to be able to do so as cost efficiently as possible.

In 2020, to support organisations adopting FSR across multiple facilities, TAPA introduced a new single audit process FSR Multisite option to enable a group of facilities to be covered by one parent certificate, with all sites listed in the certification addendum.

To help companies looking to achieve FSR certification for multiple sites, TAPA has now created a new FSR Multisite Guidance document, which covers:

  • Detailed information on the procedure for Multisite certification
  • Collected experience of users and Independent Audit Bodies (IABs) from the last 3 years
  • Advice on how to prepare for a Multisite audit
  • A Q&A on Multisite certifications

Whilst FSR Multisite was created for companies looking to certify more than 3 facilities, the organisations currently enjoying the benefits of this option have typically certified 10 or more facilities. This increases their ability to maintain a single security management system, reduces the time allocated to IAB audits, and significantly lowers their IAB audit costs.

A Central Function must be accountable for the single management system and overseeing ongoing conformance to the TAPA Standards. With IAB notification and approval, the LSP/Applicant can then:

  • include new sites into the certification or remove existing sites
  • change the security levels of existing sites
  • transfer existing single certified sites into an existing Multisite certification if they are the same FSR version

‘FSR Multisite certification is the perfect solution for any supply chain facility operators which want to demonstrate to customers their commitment to meeting industry security standards, but which also want to find the most cost-efficient way to achieve this higher level of resilience. The current economic and cargo crime climate makes this especially relevant right now,” said Markus Prinz, TAPA EMEA’s Senior Manager, Standards, Training & Certifications.
