If you have any interest in the security and resilience of supply chains in South Africa, you should attend or send a representative to TAPA EMEA’s South Africa Regional Conference in Johannesburg on 7 March 2023.
Cargo thefts in South Africa reported to the TAPA EMEA Intelligence System (TIS) are at a record high. In the past year alone, individual losses have included:
During such types of attacks on supply chains in South Africa, TAPA EMEA also regularly receives reports of losses of lives of police officers, security personnel, and suspects.
>577m Rand of losses in 18 months
South Africa’s law enforcement agencies regularly report cargo crime data, especially truck hijackings, and enjoy a high degree of success in disrupting criminal activities and arresting offenders targeting truck and facilities – but, despite their best efforts, supply chains across South Africa face frequent threats. Over just 18 months, TAPA EMEA recorded 2,670 cargo thefts across all 9 South African provinces, including 2,236 truck hijackings.
Only a tiny percentage of the financial losses impacting businesses are known, but the figures are still substantial. Only 3.4% of these crimes reported to the Association over 18 months provided a loss value but these incidents alone produced losses of:
This special one-day conference in Gauteng province, which suffers over 50% of all cargo thefts reported to TAPA EMEA, will help supply chain security stakeholders, including Manufacturers and Logistics Service providers, understand the security risks impacting supply chains in South Africa and highlight solutions which contribute to loss prevention and supply chain resilience.
Timings: The conference reception and exhibition area will open for networking, tea & coffee at 08.00hrs. The conference sessions will commence at 09.00hrs until 16.30hrs, including two coffee breaks and a lunch break to provide time to network with other delegates and to meet with our supply chain security products and services exhibitors.
